The Banque is a county/western bar in Norfolk with a very large dance floor.
Big Bands on the Bay is put on by Fest Events every Sunday from Memorial day through Labor Day weekends at Ocean View Park in Norfolk. 7-9 pm, free. Big band means 1940's style swing and dancing is on a concrete surface or grass. Bring chairs, blankets and coolers but no glass or alcohol.
Contra dancing in Hampton Roads. Contra is a type of folk dancing with a caller and fiddle music. Couples progress up and down a longways set by performing a sequence of figures with other couples who are progressing the opposite way. Events smoke and alcohol free and are held in schools, churches and private clubs.
Country Bootleggers Dance Studio on Route 17 in York County offers ballroom, country & western, hip hop, Irish step dance, line dance, salsa and swing. In the country music world swing normally means west coast swing.
Dancesport VA studio is located on the border of Norfolk and Virginia Beach has two maple dance floors totalling 5,000 square feet and teaches ballroom, latin, country western, salsa, swing, hustle and more. They have dance parties every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Douglas High Dance Studio is in Hampton on Mercury Blvd close to I64. Teaching all dances in American Social, International Style, Competitive, Ballroom and Latin, All Performing Arts, Hip Hop, Jazz, Ballet, Tap, Theatre Arts, & Country Western.
Groovin' on the Bay are free outdoor concerts put on by Hampton Parks & Recreation in Buckroe. Sundays 6-9 pm in June, July and August.

Single Friends in Christ holds a dance at Ascension Church in Virginia Beach, usually the last Friday of the month. (757) 486-5687. Check their calendar at sficvbva.dot5hosting.com/
Steppin' Out in Virginia Beach is two bars in one building. One is sports bar and the other has a medium-sized dance floor with a stage for bands. They specialize in beach music and shag dancing.
Swing Virginia promotes swing events in Hampton Roads. Most events are on the South Side but as of Summer '07 a scene is developing in Newport News. When they say swing they basically mean lindy-hop and they also mix in east coast swing and charleston.
Riverwalk Landing in Yorktown is the location of free outdoor summer concerts Fridays 6:30-9:30. Sponsored by York County Tourism and Events and held more or less June - September.
Tango Bed and Breakfast is a feature of the Pequod Inn in the Port Warwick section of Newport News. They organize Tango vacations and events are open to the public.
Tidewater Swing Dance Club holds weekly dances; Friday nights in Virginia Beach and Saturday nights in Newport News. When they saw swing they mean west coast swing. There is a variety of music but mostly pop and blues ranging from 85 - 140 BPM.
Two Step Tidewater are a couple who do dance events - Country-western, swing, latin and ballroom dances and lessons held at DanceSport VA. Also a social dance every Sunday night at DanceSport VA.
USA Dance, Virginia Peninsula chapter; has links to Southside, Williamsburg and Richmond chapters. Also has a calendar of dances from all four chapters if you sign-up with google calendar... wonderful functionality.
USA Dance, a nationwide nonprofit organization, is the United States National Governing Body for recreational and competitive ballroom dancing.
The basic purpose of each Chapter is to promote ballroom dancing in the local community and to educate the public regarding the physical, mental, and social benefits of ballroom dancing
Chapters promote and sponsor amateur ballroom dancing for competitors, social dancers, and the general public.
Virginia Beach Shag club seems to be synonymous with Steppin' Out Lounge in Virginia Beach.
