We hold a smoke and alcohol free DJ'd ballroom dance every 2nd and 4th Saturday at the Transportation Masonic Lodge, 128 Deep Creek Road in Newport News, VA.
The dance runs from 7:30 to 10:30. Cost is $3.00 members, $5:00 non-members.

Dance event suggestions:
Turn on the lights.
Reduce the number of tables and put chairs around the perimeter. (This encourages meet, greet and dance while reducing setup and teardown labor.)
Skirt the the DJ table.
Do frequent, simple mixers like Tom Jones.
Announce ladies choice.
Provide a pre-dance lesson (keep the start time the same).
Consistent day, time and place. Don't change time seasonally.
Close the louvred window doors to the kitchen.
Disallow agendas outside the social purpose of the dance (patriotic songs, religious messages, individual grandstanding).
Remind the group to mix and not monopolize anyone or act too familiar.

Food: Healthy and plateless. Low fat, low sugar, low salt, whole wheat, fruit.
Beverages: Mostly sugar-free, include fruit juice diluted 1/3 juice to 2/3 water, chilled, no ice, plastic cups. Provide markers to write one's name on one's cup; cups will be placed on a table in the refreshment room since there will be few to no tables in the dance room.
